Meet the Winemaker: An evening with Ktima Ligas
This Friday (12 October), 7-9.30pm (free for all to drop in)

This Friday night, we’re very excited to be joined by Jason Ligas of winery Ktima Ligas. Jason will be at the bar pouring a selection of his wonderful wines, talking about the unique and special place that his family vineyards have not just in Greece, but the world. We will of course have a large selection of his wines available to enjoy by the glass on the evening, or indeed to purchase at a special ‘meet the winemaker’ price. It’s free just to drop in, but if you’d like to reserve a table and make a night of it, just get in touch here

A little about Ktima Ligas…

The first performance of the Euripides tragedy Bacchae took place in the Theatre of Dionysus, in Pella, in around 408BC. Bacchae was the ancient god of wine and wild joy, and so it is fitting that Ktima Ligas is using the ancient techniques of this wine-producing region to bring both wine and joy to its customers today (something we absolutely love!)

Today the Ligas family, Thomas, Jason (featured above on his barrels!) and Meli, work hard to find that perfect balance between quality and quantity, although the former always takes precedent. They see their approach as being more than just organic, and only use indigenous Greek grape varieties, some of which had nearly been forgotten, such as Kydonitsa. Many grape varieties fell from favour after phylloxera in the 19th century nearly wiped out vine growing across Europe, and so in many ways Ktima Ligas is trying to resurrect these old varieties and farming methods. They now use Roditis, Assyrtiko and Kydonitsa for the white wines, and Xinomavro and Limniona for the reds.

BojoYay! Nouveau night… (aka. Beaujolais Nouveau 2018)
Thursday 15 November, 7pm onwards, Free…
Live music to set the scene, Beaujolais, cheese (& possibly Paul in a beret)

Barman: Can I get you anything, Sir?
Del: I’ll have a bottle of the Beaujolais Nouveau…A 79!
*(the year was 1984)

This year, we won’t be serving any Beaujolais Nouveau 1979 (I chuckle as I type that) just some of the freshest, newest wines from the most recent harvest. Nor will we be tucking in to them at Breakfast, we thought we’d wait until the evening and share a night of all things Beaujolais (and the wondrous Gamay grape) with you, our lovely customers.

We have placed our order with producer Chateau Cambon for some of their new juice, which we’ll be pouring alongside some of our other favourite Beaujolais producers. We’ll have live music and some new season cheese too! We may even don berets and breton stripes… We just don’t know, but what we do know is that this will be a joyously fun evening and we encourage you all to come along!
